Outdoor Skills & Training Days

GENERAL INFORMATION

Over the course of a day we will look at the many different aspects of expedition life, this course is would benefit anyone setting off on their first overseas trip. No experience is required, it is an opportunity for you to bring your kit along and start getting used to it. The course consists of various seminars as well practical hands on elements, expect to walk in your expedition kit for about 4 hours.

SUBJECTS COVERED

The course will cover the following areas, but our seasoned oversea leaders are happy to cover any aspects that you would like to discuss.

  • Clothing and Equipment – We will run you through a standard kit list showing examples of what the kit and discuss the pros and cons of different pieces of gear.
  • Preparing and packing for your expedition – What you pack in your day bag, expedition bag and why.
  • Expedition fitness – what types of training should you be undertaking for your expedition and what can you do to ensure your body is prepared for the activities you will be undertaking whilst on expedition.
  • Team dynamics – How the team interacts with each other can make or break an expedition, recognising flash points and how to deal with them.
  • Health, wellbeing and hygiene – Looking atter yourself and your team members
  • Movement on rough terrain – Carrying an expedition rucksack and using walking poles
  • Environment – How to care for the environment and respecting the peoples that your treks through.
  • Safety and Security – Avoiding hostile situations looking after your belongings
  • Basic first aid advice – what to look for and what you should take with you to ensure you are able to look after yourself whilst on expedition.
  • Day to day expedition life – The general make up of each day on expedition

Please also note that no food is included so please bring a packed lunch and snacks for the day.
