Ambleside to Troutbeck via Wansfell Pike

A very pleasant start to this walk up through woods by the side of a ghyll (river) before popping out into the open and the steep ascent up to Wansfell Pike, where you are rewarded with magnificent views over Windermere.

After a short break to take in the views and have a bite to eat, we descend over open fell to the quaint village of Troutbeck – home of Beatrix Potter. We’ll stop here for lunch and return by the the ‘low road’, an undulating path commanding fine views towards the lake and passing through deciduous woodland before dropping back to the Ambleside.
