Trek over 30km of high mountain terrain and conquer three of Mainland Spain’s highest mountains whilst taking in the stunning Sierra Nevada National Park. Our Spanish 3 peaks challenge will consist of summiting Alcazaba, Veleta and Mulhacén. The mountain range is the second highest in Europe after the Alps. The three peaks are:
Mulhacen (3482m, highest in the Spanish mainland) is named after the penultimate Arab ruler Muley Hacen who is reputedly buried on the mountain after he was deposed by his son, Boabdil.
Pico del Veleta (3396m) translates as The Weather Vane. Veleta is clearly seen from Granada from where people can interpret the weather observing what is happening on the mountain.
Alcazaba (3371m) translates as The Fortress and is named after its imposing north face as seen from Granada and the north.
